“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life – I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking – I think what we’re really seeking is an experience of being alive. So that the life experiences we have on the purely physical plane will have resonances within which are those of our own innermost being and reality. So that we actually feel the rapture of being alive – that’s what it’s all finally about.”

Joseph Campbell

Crazy Wisdom is a term for a renegade spiritual tradition that recognises the value of paradox, unconventionality and spontaneity instead of following tradition, rules and dogma.

It also nods the head to those mavericks and heretics – crazy to the mainstream, wise to us – who have already sketched out what an alternative world view would look like – one based around consciousness and spiritual realisation.

The Crazy Wisdom School is many things – a growing tribe, open to those who share our vision, a set of events and, in time, a physical space where we can bring all of this to the wider world.

We think big at the Crazy Wisdom School. It might be because we’re crazy, but it might be because we’re wise.

We believe this project has the potential to catalyse a genuine transformation in consciousness – first for ourselves, and then for others.

This is because we believe – well, perhaps feel deeply is a better term – that the necessary (and inevitable) next step for our culture is to go inwards, to rediscover the connection to our deeper selves that some might call ‘spiritual’.

It may still be unfashionable in the skeptical UK society to believe this, but we’re pretty sure that the next cultural shift will be a resurgence of the spiritual – and we’re willing to look a little credulous and uncool for a while in order to have the last laugh.

We believe that there is a common theme to many of the problems of the world and the individual – the experience of separation.

Since the birth of the ‘human potential movement’ in the late 60s, many techniques and methods for transformation have been developed, others have been rediscovered from much earlier traditions. They have continued to be refined since then, out on the fringes of the culture. We believe they hold many of the keys for unlocking our state of separation.

At the moment we’re just at the beginning of our journey, putting on events for ourselves and a select few others, and creating a website (this one!) that sketches out our vision, some of the practices and experiences we want to offer, some of the team helping to create it, and some of the influences and inspirations for the project.
